YEAR 2016 – 2017: by Jordi Parramon
The first thing that has to be said is that in order to follow the course previous music studies are not needed. Technical or historical references will always be backed by a musical example. Indeed during the first part of the course we shall get to know different parts of the music and how a musical work is balanced. We shall gradually become familiar with words like Harmony, Soprano, Viola, Sonata or Symphony that will give us some analytical elements that ultimately should help you to better enjoy listening to music.
General introduction.
Fundamentals of Music: The parts (Rhythm, Melody, Harmony and Timbre).
The voice and its ‘tessitura’ (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass).
Instruments and their families (Strings, Woodwind, Brass, Percussion).
Genres (Vocal music, instrumental, symphonic, chamber).
The forms (Suite, Fugue, Sonata, Symphony).
We shall be hearing works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and many others.
Finally, if you allow, I would say that you have to fulfill one condition in order to signing on for the course: you like music!
