Ewa Pyrek
Violin
She was born in Krakow (Poland). She studied in the Krakow Conservatory with Janusz Czubak, Antoni Cofalik and Teresa Glabowna, graduating cum laude. She has also studied with Tadeusz Wroñski (Warsaw), Wolfgang Marschner (Freiburg) and Edward Zienkowski (Vienna ).
In 1997, with a grant from Prague, she continued her studies as a soloist at the Guildhall School of Music (London) with Krzysztof Smietana, obtaining the first prize in the Concert Recital Diploma. While still studying, she joined the first violin sections of both the London and BBC Symphony Orchestras. She also taught at the Yehudi Menuhin School in London.
She has been awarded the following prizes: 1st prize in the T.Wroñski International Competition for Violin Solo (Warsaw, 1995); 3rd prize in the Markneukirchen competition (Germany, 1999); honorable mention in the Wieniawski competition (Poznan, Poland, 1991 ); semi-finalist in the N. Paganini International Competition (Genoa, 1994) and in the J. Sibelius Competition (Helsinki, 1995); 2nd prize in the Lipinski and Wieniawski International Competition (Lublin, Poland, 1991) and in the International Music Competition of London (1997).
In 2000 she toured with the Kanazawa Chamber Orchestra (Japan). In 2001 she obtained a place as first violinist in the Orquestra del Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona and in 2006 became a soloist in the same orchestra.
She has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Poland and in recitals in Germany, Great Britain, France and Japan. She has recorded for Polish National Radio.
